Do you need some help organizing your kids’ clothes? Do you ever go into your young child’s bedroom and the room is covered in clothes and toys?

But you know your child actually only likes to wear 2 shirts. his Ninja turtle shirt and his Dinosaur shirt?

And somehow, the clothes on the floor are all dirty? how???

well. No More!

Introducing Ziploc Bags for organizing kids’ clothes!

For vacation last year I used this lady’s awesome method of putting one full outfit into one gallon sized ziploc bag per day https://mothersniche.com/tips-for-packing-traveling-with-kids/.

I cannot even begin to say how big of a game-changer this was for traveling!

It worked so well, that I decided to invest in a box of ziploc bags, and went through my boys’ clothes, matched them up, (and got rid of the matchless), and zipped them up and back into the drawers.

First of all, this helped with making sure my son had clean underwear on.

Second, it stopped them from ‘fishing’ around their drawers for clothes that worked, and getting all the ‘rejected ones’ onto the floor.

Thirdly, and I don’t know why this is still a problem, but when they have to clean their room, the kids know which are clean or not. The bags of ziploc clothes go back in the drawer, and the other clothes go into the laundry.

It has saved on messes and laundry big time! And it has also cut down on clothes. when you know you have full outfits for the kids, there’s no need to keep replenishing them at the store (till they out grow them).

Tip 1: Have 2 laundry baskets.

My first mistake was to not have a place for the empty (and resusable) ziploc bags (I really do use the brand name, because they are tougher) So put two laundry baskets, or buy one of these double hampers, one for clothes, one for empty ziploc bags to reuse.

And teach your kids where to put the bags.

Note: Pretend and Practice with your kids taking out an outfit, and putting the bag straight into the basket. just telling them may not be enough. practicing a few times right away with you will help solidify it in their minds

Tip 2: Marking the ziploc bags – not worth it.

I loved marking them with initials when we went on vacation, it was so easy!

But marking them for reuse wasn’t so easy. This seriously happens to me putting away laundry.

“why did I end up with more child A clothes, but more child B bags?!”

If you are a little more organized with your laundry style than me, go for it. But it was not worth it to me.

Tip 3: Miscellaneous gets bags too.

At first I put undies and a pair of socks into each (perfect for traveling)

But then I found that sometimes my boys didnt need socks, and I had extra underwear that I didn’t want to get rid of just in case.

Not to mention hats, jackets, ties, belts, suspenders, costumes etc.

what I say to this is “you get a bag, and you get a bag, and everyone gets a bag”

Tip 4: It’s ok to have shirts by themselves. Which means keeping a box of ziploc bags by the washer/dryer.

When I started my “organizing kids’ clothes” plan, I immediately fell in love with it. it was so easy! But then after the first few weeks and the boys had gone through their clothes, I realized that I was putting off laundry because I didn’t want to sort their clothes again.

How is it that even with the same amount of tops and bottoms, they somehow did not make it all into the laundry at the same time?

So I put top/bottom combos together when I could. Then said “good enough” to any non-matched clothes, and they got their own ziploc bag.

They may never find their way back into a combo bag again. I don’t know. But I know that for my laundry sanity, I couldn’t be held up with unmatched clothes.
