Lesson on the letter sound E
“Welcome everyone, do you remember what letter we learned last time? what was it’s sound? Do you remember any of the words that start with D?
What letter are we learning about now?
let’s sing the abc song.
It’s E!
The Letter E is a vowel, can everyone say vowel? vowels are the sounds we make when our mouths are open. like AAHOHHHUHHIHHEhhh. Letter E has 2 sounds EHHHH as in Elephant and E as in Eel. Can you repeat after me eHHHH now EEE. Very good. E has two ways to spell it. the uppercase is a line down, then you start at the top and do a line over then a middle line over then a line at the bottom over. 3 lines over. one two three. and the lowercase is a line over in the middle, then up just a bit, then loop to make a C.
Handwriting the letter E
Letter E Egg craft

Preschool Lesson: The Riddle (E for Elephant)
“We are going to hear a riddle, who here knows what a riddle is? It’s kind of like a joke, but it’s not supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to make us use our minds to think hard for the tricky answer.
Are you ready to hear a riddle?
I’m going to tell you a story of 6 blind men. After we hear the story of all 6 blind men, you need to use your mind to figure out what Animal they really saw. Ok?
Once upon a time, a circus came to town where there were 6 blind men. The circus owner had a special animal that nobody in that town had ever seen before, and he was charging everyone a dollar each to go in and touch it.
So the 6 blind men went in, one by one and touched it.
The first one went in, then cam out. “Wow!” He said, That animal is like a strong wall!
Then second blind man came out. “Amazing! That animal felt just like a giant tree.”
The third one came out “Outstanding! That animal felt like a long anaconda snake.
The fourth one came out. “So weird, that animal felt like an oversized fan.”
The fifth one came out. “Terrifying, that animal felt like a sharpened spear.”
Finally the 6th and last one went in, being very afraid. He didn’t like big scary animals. But when he touched the animal, he exclaimed. “What? This is only a frayed rope.”
Which of the blind men were right? And what do you think the animal was?
Give them each the mini paper so they can give the riddle to their parents.
Game activity and Song with E – Emotions
Who here liked the riddle? We are going to talk about emotions. Did any of you feel surprised when you found out it was an elephant? What about when you guessed right, what was your feeling? Happy? Did any of you feel sad when you guessed wrong? Besides surprised, happy, and sad. What other emotions can we feel? Have you seen the movie inside out? Do you remember the 5 people in her head? the yellow one was. . . Joy, the blue one was. . . sadness, the red one was. . . anger, the green one was. . . disgust, and the purple one was fear!
We are going to sing a song about all the emotions! You’ll have to listen carefully so you know what to do. And you’ll have to practice making different emotion faces. Like anger, can I see your angry faces? Those aren’t angry faces! They’re too cute!
Ok, Here’s the song:
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands
If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it
If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.
- Angry. . . Stomp your feet
- Sad. . . cry boohoo
- Excited. . . Shout Hurray
- Loved. . . hug yourself
- Tired. . . stretch and yawn
- Scared. . . shiver with fear
- disgusted. . . plug your nose
- surprised. . . hands on face
- Hungry. . . Rub your belly
- Silly. . . Dance around
- Bored. . . Twiddle your thumb
Sometimes it is fun to act out our emotions. But sometimes when it’s not a happy emotion, our parents don’t know how we are feeling unless we tell them. Let’s look at this list of emotions, and each of you can pick an emotion and tell us one time when you felt that way. (make sure they start with I felt ______ blank when) Thank you for sharing. It always make me (point to happy) happy when we can share how we are feeling with each other.
Story time with letter E
As many Mo Willems Elephant and Pig Books you can get at the library. And read to them till they are picked up. They are perfect for preschoolers.
