Chess has always been known as the ‘Genius Game’. Therefore, it can be pretty intimidating to play it, because what if you lose? Does that mean you are not smart?
Well, I have the PERFECT GAME for all those people who want to up their Chess Genius, but don’t want to pit their skills (yet) with other geniuses.

Chess is such a valuable teaching tool.

Chess is such an intimidating game, and it is not really fun to play if you are a beginner. And sadly, nobody wants to play with you if you are any good.
Luckily there are plenty of solitaire chess games online (https://www.chess.com/play/computer) and apps (https://www.chess.com/article/view/the-best-chess-apps.)
But there is something brilliant about working out the problems by yourself.
My young boy loves chess, but I can’t find the time or safe space (toddler underfoot) to play with him.
We found this at the fabulous local library, and we tried it out.
I loved it.
He loved it.
And it helps with thinking ahead a few moves, and strategy, and it also helps with becoming really familiar with all of the chess pieces.

How to Play Solitaire Chess.
Solitaire Chess is exactly what it sounds like. Real Chess moves, but only one player. This means that there is not Black or White pieces on the Board. In this case there is only BLUE.
Each LEVEL is a 4 X 4 Chess grid, with starting pictures of the Chess Pieces that need to be used for that level.
For instance. Beginner Level 6 Plays with 1 Rook, 2 Knights, and 1 Bishop.
They rules are simple:
- To win, you must destroy all pieces except for the last one on the board.
- Every move must destroy a piece.
- If you get stuck, start over!
And that’s it! Check out my son giving it a try. I bet you can figure it out before he does!
My phone actually died while I was recording this, so I didn’t catch on video when he finally figured it out. But I promise you, he did.
He loves this game and it gave him a lot of confidence to join a local kids’ Chess Club for the school year.
It is a superb way to strengthen problem-solving skills, and teaches them to have patience and go through hard things on their own.
