Pig Painting Panda Letter P Printable

Everything you need for your preschool letter P lesson plan. Including shopping list, to-do list, and itinerary!

This is specifically for a preschool at-home Co Op.

All these suggestions work for a group between 5-10 children, and I cannot guarantee it would work for a bigger group. After all, preschool kids are wild, and I don’t know how to get them to listen if there are too many, LOL!

My Co Op follows a basic Calendar: One day a week, each week is a new letter, (we have a few Holiday activities thrown in), each mom is in charge of one month, and we get to choose our own lesson plan!

As exciting as that sounds, I wish that they just gave me a lesson plan, instead of me searching and creating it from scratch each time.

But my loss is your gain! because I already did the work, you can just follow what I did.

Outline for the Co Op Class for Letter P

I find that breaking the assignments up into 15 minute increments helps their attention span. But some of these will take a little longer, some will take a little less time, don’t feel like you need to rush through any section, and if you don’t make it all the way through, that is just fine! They are little children, let them absorb what they can and what they want.

Morning of.

Prepare your work stations. Usually in a home, this would be at the dining room table, and in the living room. If you have more rooms available, (front room, breakfast room, etc) consider having things set up in each room so you don’t have to clean up and set up while the children are there.

Set up tv for the youtube videos if you plan on doing those.

  • Dining room 1: Princess/Prince Crown WaterColor
  • Living Room 1: have a circle time area in the middle of the floor. You can put pillow, blankets, mats, or nothing, to designate where kiddos should sit.
  • Dining Room 2: Set up for popcorn! the kids will love watching it pop if you have either this, or this kind of popcorn maker. If not, microwave popcorn is still good. Make sure you have little bowls for each child and little cups for water.
  • Living Room 2: Puzzle Game. Have the pieces ready, and put them in a pile in the middle of the circle
  • Dining room 3: Handwriting Printable.
  • Dining Room 4: Pizza Crackers
  • Dining Room 5: Play Dough

Letter P Preschool Welcome: Prince and Princess Crown Painting

Welcome everyone in, and have them sit at the table. (preschool crown painting)

Each child will get a watercolor page or canvas (we did canvas) with the taped crown already set.

And a paintbrush and paints nearby.

Let them paint till they are finished.

It is important that the painting happens first, or it might not have time to dry completely before the kids are picked up. Have a place set aside to dry their work. (near the end, you’ll need to help take off the tape for the kids)

Write ‘Prince or Princess’ (their name) under their crown.

Introducing the Letter P

“Who here knows what letter we are learning today? I’ll give you a hint. We just made crowns for P-P-Princes and P-P-Princesses. That’s right, it’s P!

So many fun things start with the letter P. P is also really easy to write. It’s just a line down, and a little loop attached to the top! and the lowercase is almost the same, it just goes under the line a little bit.

Today we are going to learn about some pretty important P words. Like Please”

Learning to say please and thank you.

Who here know what please means?

Who here knows what thank you means?

Why do you think its important to say those words?

Did you know you can say please without talking? (show sign language for please) It’s like you feel good when you rub your heart, and you are asking them from your heart in a nice way, which means please.

Can you guess what sign language is for thank you? It’s like you are so happy, that you want to give a nice word, straight from your mouth, like a gift, to the person who was nice to you. You know what that word is? Thank you!

We are going to sing a song, and every time I say the word please, sign please, and every time I use the word thank you, sign thank you

(please and thank you song)

I actually sang a song to the tune of Frere Jacques

  • Please and thank you, please and thank you
  • please please please
  • please please please
  • thank you thank you thank you
  • thank you thank you thank you
  • please and thank you, please and thank you.

It was really simple and the kids got to practice the please and thank you signs over and over again.

We are going to Play with Pirate Puppets for our next song.

What do pirates say? (yo ho ho) (hand them the finger puppets)

Sing 5 little pirates to the tune of 5 little ducks

  • 5 little pirates went out one day.
  • over the sea and far away.
  • When the captain yelled “Yo Ho HO”
  • 4 little pirates came “arrrghing” back home.

Have the kids run across the room with their pirate puppets, and have one less come running back. If you have a helper, they can help keep the right amount of kids there.

This was such a big hit, that they asked to do this song over and over again.

Now we are going to sing one more P song. This one is a hint about what we are going to do next. It comes with actions too. So follow along

(popcorn popping)

Now lets go to the table for popcorn!

Popcorn Popping Snacks

We are going to make our very own popcorn snacks!

(show them the kernals) this is just dried corn, and you can’t eat it. But if you put it near something hot, it will ‘pop’ and blow up into popcorn!

(make popcorn)

Have everyone sit down.

Ask them what word they should use to get popcorn (please) when you hand them popcorn, remind them to say thank you.

Pet Puzzles with Popsicle Sticks

When they are done with the popcorn, have them all sit in the circle in the living room.

Mix up all the puzzle pieces, and explain that they have to help each other put all the animals back together.

When they are done. Point to each animal and say the name, and something special about the animal.

Play again.

P is for Pig Painting Panda Printable.

Have them come back into the dining room, then say we are going to learn about another awesome P animals. The pigs and the pandas.

Have them trace big p and little p, and then try to write ps on the next line by themselves.

While they are tracing. Bring out the mini pizza crackers.

Pizza Crackers.

They can assemble the pizza crackers themselves, or you make them first. Take saltine or ritz crackers and add pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and (optional) mini pepperonis (it was too spicy for some of the kids). then put it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.

Play Dough

Pull out the play dough for the rest of the time till the parents get there. If you have extra time. show them how to rub the playdough into snakes, and make a straight line for a p, and a curve that goes on the top for the rest of it.

While they are playing with the play dough, it is a good time to take the tape off of the crown, and show them that it worked.

Hope you enjoyed this Letter P Preschool Co Op Lesson Plan!
