Introducing The Letter D
Welcome everyone, do you remember what letter we learned last time? what was it’s sound? Do you remember any of the words that start with C ?
What letter are we learning about now?
let’s sing the abc song.
It’s D!
D has a sound too, it is duh. can you say duh? D can make lots of words, can you think of any words that start with d? dogs, ducks, doctor etc. These all have the same beginning sound of D. D can look like 2 different letters. there is this D. that is one line down, and you attach a half circle from the top of the line, out and back in and down to the bottom line. And there is this d, which is one line down and only one circle on the bottom, but its on the other side of the line. This D is called the uppercase, or capital letter, and the smaller d, is called a lowercase d. It’s like one is the mom and the other is it’s baby!
Dinosaur and Dragons matching Game
Gather everyone in a circle. You can use tape to put the nest on walls, lay it down on a hard floor, or have them gather around the table. The eggs should be face down, with only the letter D or d showing. The kids take turns putting one dinosaur, then a dragon egg into their rightful nests. (When they are done, they can take 1 dinosaur and one dragon home if they want).
“Oh no! Something terrible has happened! A momma dragon and a momma dinosaur both lost their eggs out of their nests!! They need our help to find out which baby goes to which momma. Momma Dinosaur’s nest has Uppercase Ds, momma dragon’ has Lowercase ds.
Handwriting: the letter D
Gather everyone to the table with pens and coloring pencils or crayons, and have them practice the correct letters of uppercase and lowercase D with this free printable, and the preschoolers can color the picture afterwards.
Snack beginning with the letter D

Story time with letter book: How do dinosaurs say i love you
Lesson Plan Letter D and Dinosaur teeth
Dinosaurs.
“Who here loves dinosaurs? They were giant birds that lived a long long time ago, before any people even! We didn’t know a lot about dinosaurs, since we’ve never seen them alive, but we have found their bones a lot. people who dig up dinosaur bones are called paleontologists. Have you ever gone to a museum and seen a real life dinosaur skeleton? Lots of the dinosaurs were bigger than our houses! and some ate plants and trees, they are called herbivores, and some who ate other dinosaurs, they are called carnivores. They can tell what they eat by their teeth. See the Tyrannosaurus rex (t rex) has giant teeth that would bite down hard on someone. but this dinosaur had flatter teeth, to grind plants together with.
“Try it. What teeth are you using to bite through this beef jerky? Your sharp front teeth, right? Now what teeth are you using to chew up these carrots? So what does that make us? Are we carnivores that eat meat like a tyrannosaurus? Or are we herbivores who eat vegetables like the stegosaurus? We eat both! A lot of us humans are omnivores who eat all the things. Including donuts!“
(bonus mini snacks with jerky, carrots, and donuts) “I think I’m a donutvore, because that’s what my teeth love. What kind of ‘vore are you?” (cerealvore, ice creamvore, etc)
Bonus Ending Game: Dropping Darts
This is a fun game for little ones. with your help to guard them and keep them safe, let them stand on a chair or a stool, put the magnetic dartboard on the ground in front of them, and let them take turns dropping the magnetic darts onto the dartboard. (It’s less than $10, and worth buying to keep for myself afterwards)
D For DANCE PARTY! throw the wiggles on the tv at the end and have everyone dance till their parents get here. Bonus if you teach them the D-D-Duck song
