Quarantine Hair Like You Just Don’t Care – My At Home Hair Dyeing Tips
Okay, so let’s talk about hair — specifically this little trend (or big mistake) that’s been going on that I like to call Quarantine Hair Fever!
Have you ever had a hair cut, style, or color that you’ve always wanted to try but were worried that it would look bad so you stayed with the same old “boring” hair that you’ve always had just because you didn’t want other people to judge you?
Well, it turns out that quarantine has worked miracles for this fear! Since we can’t socialize, why not try something that you normally wouldn’t? Why not risk it? Now, whether that’s a good thing or not, that entirely depends on the “crazy” hairstyle you choose to do!
So, just for the fun of it, let’s take a look at all of my “bad” hairstyles I have done in the last few years and discuss how on earth I still had the courage to do it AGAIN when I got the Quarantine Hair Fever.
First, what do you get when you mix blue and yellow? GREEN!
Three or four years ago, I really wanted blue hair. Like, REALLY bad. So, I went with my sister to Wal-Mart after I had a rather hard day and we were looking at the color just for fun when she turned to me and told me that we should go through life regretting the things we DID do, and not wishing we had done something we had really wanted to do.
Did this work on me? Yes, yes it did. So, we bought the blue dye, and bleached my hair, and then the blue… ultimately we got this color, which looks way better than it did in person!
Here’s big hair mistake #2!
So, as if that wasn’t bad enough, several years passed before I had my beautiful “normal” hair back, then I did something else… I decided that I wanted a Pixie cut… Some people can pull this off and it looks amazing! I am not one of those people.
It has now been two years since I cut my hair and now it is just long enough that it reaches my shoulders. So, when the timer in my head goes off every two years and begged me to make a drastic change to my hair, I should have learned from my past two mistakes and ignore it, right?
Hair Mistake #3 PURPLE!
I mean, I’ve always wanted colorful hair, I have multiple pins on Pinterest about some pretty crazy amazing hair styles, I’m talking anything and everything from rainbow hair all the way to shaved head… all these things that I’ve wanted to try, but do you know how hard it is to grow back hair!? It’s taken me two years to get shoulder length hair! I can’t afford to shave my head…
My mom hated the green hair more than anything, so when I brought the purple dye home, she about died. . . dyed. . . Haha, mind the pun.
Anyways! I did it, well, two of my sisters did it for me!
I called my sister, who is a professional hairdresser (I wanted to actually know that I was doing it right so I didn’t make the green mistake again), and there was a 25 volume in the box and she had me go and buy a 10 volume and mix those two together. Other than that, I followed the instructions on the box perfectly!

During the Transformation: My sisters had a blast with dying more of my skin than they did dying my hair… they got carried away, but hey! At least they had fun!

Honestly, I have absolutely loved it! It turned out to be a blackish/blue but has lightened to a blackish/purple as more time has passed. It’s just enough “normal” color to not look crazy but also “crazy” enough to make me happy that I did it.
My Biggest At Home Hair Dyeing Tip:
Here’s the thing, you only live once! Hair grows back (eventually) and you can always dye your hair again if you don’t like what it turned out like.
I am one hundred percent for jumping on the Quarantine Hair Train and taking it wherever it leads!
Who knows, you might find the hair color that you’ve always wanted! Or, you could end up with a fun story about getting green hair. Either way, there are smiles to be had out there! Better go find them!
